Dougal
Dougal
is a 16h liver chestnut/ chocolate dun gelding. He is 18 now and has been with us for about 7 yrs. Dougal is a bit of a mismatch, being highland cross TB, and this is evident in his manner and conformation! Better know as "Doug the Thug", Dougal can be bolshy at feed times and a little quirky when riding him! He has a particular aversion to fresian cows. Nevertheless, Dougal has one very strong benefit - he jumps- into lorries/ out of fields or overanything that lays in his path. He will take anyone over anything as long as he is heading in the right direction!
Showjumping
Dougal loves to jump and is a great confidence giver. Having said that he is no fool and prior to arriving at our yard had perfected a party trick of running past fences. Having solved that one, Dougal and I had great fun competing BSJA and progressed well through the lower levels and out of Newcomers. After this he qualified for the trailblazer finals for three consecutive years and got a lower place at the finals.
Currently
Dougal has been fighting old age for the past few years. He has always had a few back problems and these have combined with a touch of arthritis to mean that he has not been able to compete for a while. Fortunately we seem to have found a solution, and with frequent trips to the physio and eggbar shoes, he has found a new lease of life. Tom has taken over the ride and is enjoying the ability and scope that Dougal has to offer! At their first show together they jumped really well and are looking forward to the next!
