Diamond Boy (Buggie)
Buggie
Buggie is a 16.3 chestnut gentle giant. He lives for his food and looks like he has never missed a meal. He can perform simple tricks like saying please for a polo and likes to take life at a leisurely pace! Deep down he is a big baby and loves the fuss and attention that he gets and deserves. We have owned him since he was 5 and he is now 23!Buggie loves Harmony, although she rarely returns his affections!
Buggie's Secret phobia....
Those who know Buggie will understand that he hates green leaves, especially when they chase him or blow in the wind. As a youngster he was a little naughty and we chased him up the road with twigs and branches to get him to go forwards. He has always given them a wide birth ever since! However, he did come face to face with his phobia the year he first did the area horse trials at Shamley Green. Fence three was a large green hedge covered in spooky leaves. buggie did us proud that day by flying over the fence!
Buggie and showjumping
Buggie spent the first years of his life showjumping. He won around £175 BSJA before turning his hoof to Pony club and riding club events. Among his favourite achievements are...
novice derby champion at Sands Farm, Qualifying for the PC area SJ finals at Western Park, Qualifying for the RC championships at Harptbury for two years running and the Lincoln SJ championships, Jumping the PC and Schools SJ at Hickstead and all his other wins!!!!
History
Buggie came over from Ireland aged four. He was bought by us from Rapkyns Irish Horse dealers in Horsham. We made several visits before buying him as he seemed enormous compared to what we were used to! Buggie is by Kingsway Diamond (Grandsire King of Diamonds). Buggie was a little cheeky in his younger years and often used to prefer the less active option to life (walking through jumps, coming back home 2 minutes after he had left on a hack!) But with a little perseverance and gentle persuasion, he blossomed into an honest schoolmaster who has shared his talents with many members of our family!
Buggie and dressage
Buggie can do a super test for a large horse with a short stride! Among his biggest achievements are ... winning the WPEC combined training championship and coming second at the schools dressage championships Hickstead.
Buggie and Eventing
Buggie turned his hoof to eventing very late on. He initially found XC a bit daunting, but again was persuaded that it ould be fun. He stareted off by doing the PC area eventing and did well, but always found the time a bit tight (he has little strides for a big horse! and his legs didn't naturally go that fast!) Since then he has done the RC eventing and in 2000 qualified for the Offchurch 2DE championships which he won! Well done Buggie!
