Pulborough BE event

This Saturday we travelled to Coombelands for our last BE event of the season. Smurph was entered as Harmony is still recovering, and he needed a nice easy run after the tricky course at Offchurch. When we arrived we were surprised to see that the venue was a little squished, with dressage and SJ behind hedges and on a hill. The XC was very inviting and we were shocked at how much the courses differ between venues! The pre novice course was more like an intro compared to those at LArkhill Stockland Lovell and stratford Hills! Smurph did a lovely dressage with just one major blip in his canter transition, to complete a good fluent test. We had very little time to warm up too! He flew round the SJ if a little too quickly and should have been a little more obedient! He also flew round the xc and finished with a double clear on a score of 28! This meant he ended up 2nd at his 2nd official; event - well done Smurph!

14/10/07 This weekend we just had a lesson on Smurph. The weekend before we had a good lesson on Smurph and Spring before coursebuilding at Medstead on the Sunday- this was packed! This week at school we have harvest festival before half term, and Tom is off to USA! Lucky him! Tom off to vets tomorrow with Smarty who is recovering and Harmony is on super injections to help make her better. she is very sound, but still has a very lumpy leg and therefore no exercise!

Stop Press! This week is half term and so far the highlight has to be going for lesson with a rather famous show jumper!! Smurph was a good boy and jumped pretty high for him. We had lots of helpful tips and came away with lots to work on. Next I was offered the ride on one of his horses! Naturally I was a little cautious! The size of the jumps after Smurph's lesson were hugemongous as a certian famous eventer was also having a lesson! Anyway, the groom got the horse ready whilst we watched some super jumping. Next it was time to get on and let's just say at about 17.2 I was feeling rather vertically challenged! I was left for a while to school whilst Tom and said show jumper went indoors for a cup of tea. The horse was pretty stunning on the flat and naturally did changes etc.. Then Tom and co. came back and adjusted stirrups etc.. before we started jumping. We started at about two foot and went up in increments of about 1 foot, until before I knew it we were hopping over 1.45!!!!! Blimey what a star horse!!! Then we did an oxer, before jumping around a thankfully smaller course, but still rather big for me! I had a lot more to think about other than simply getting over the jump, but wow what a wonderful experience!!! I think that has to be one of Tom's best presents ever, although there are many others on a level par - thanks Tom!! SORRY BUT WE WERE FAR TOO INVOLVED WITH WHAT WAS GOING ON TO TAKE PHOTOS!!! BUGGER!! You will just have to take my word for all this - Fortunately it is not April the 1st!!!
